The Apego project emerged with the main aim to increase the number of children who acquire Galician as their first language, and to encourage them to use it routinely. It is a project set up by 12 Galician town councils in line with the proposal of the Coordinadora de Traballadores\/as de Normalización da Lingua (CTNL).<\/p>\n

The three cornerstones of Apego are: to transmit to parents positive, appropriate arguments to encourage them to pass Galician on to their children (through information, ideas, communication, etc.); to provide them with information, training, materials and resources for this purpose (via the “Welcome to the World” box, a disc of music for children in Galician, talks, various workshops, Internet resources, videos; etc.); and to set up spaces and situations so that children can be socialised in Galician (through entertainment and socialisation activities).<\/p>\n

In practice, it is a programme expected to run for several years and which, once launched, can develop various activities. These include: communication campaigns to publicise key ideas (on maintaining the language, pride, importance of transmission and socialisation in Galician, collective legacy, linguistic biodiversity, etc.); giving the families expecting a baby a “Welcome to the World” box containing a book with arguments in favour of the use of Galician; giving families a disc of music for children in Galician; organising a programme of leisure activities in Galician; and distributing resources and arguments to schools, games libraries, leisure centres, etc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
