Softaragonés is a work group set up in 2008, and which seeks to encourage the use of Aragonese in the new technologies. Its main activity is Software localization or translation.

\nThe work of Softaragonés focusses above all on open-code programs which, as a result of their nature and culture of collaborative work, facilitate their localization and dissemination in all languages, irrespective of the size of their speech communities.

\nThe work of its members is voluntary, collaborative, distributed and off site. During the first phase, work was carried out to compile a collection of computing words and a style book in addition to translating several programs and getting to know localization formats and environments. From 2011 onwards machine translation was incorporated into the work pipeline as the starting point for the translations; these are then worked on through a chain made up of members of the work group and are finally checked by another person. Since then, work has been carried out to translate operating systems (Ubuntu), programs and utilities (Firefox, Skype, notepad++, 7zip…), educational programs (Tuxpaint, Scratch), accessibility programs (NVDA) web devices (Facebook) as well as mobile phone aps (Telegram, Birthday, Mitzuli…).

\nFurthermore, within the Softaragonés environment, the Language Technologies of Aragonese (TecLiAr) group has developed computing tools such as a spellchecker (based on Hunspell and incorporated into LibreOffice), a Castilian\/Aragonese-Catalan\/Aragonese (and vice versa) machine translator based on Apertium technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
