An Gaeláras is the north west's leading Irish language, arts and cultural organisation, delivering a range of cultural initiatives, with the objective of promoting Irish Language and Culture.<\/p>\n
They provide language, music and dance classes and courses, they have an extensive annual events programme and they were central to organising festivals such as the All-Ireland Fleadh in 2013, and the Pan-Celtic Festivals 2014 and 2015.<\/p>\n
The Fleadh brought 320,000 visitors to our city and an income of £42m over 8 days.<\/p>\n
They are based in Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin, Ireland's first purpose-built Irish language, culture and arts centre, built at a cost of £4.6m and opened in 2009.<\/p>\n
They have recently restored a derelict listed building next door to us, the Church Manse, and opened it, in partnership with UU Magee, as an Academy of Traditional Music.<\/p>\n
They are the working with Derry and Strabane District Council, DSD, DCAL, NIEA, Ilex, the University of Ulster and NITB to regenerate this part of the city as a Cultural Quarter. They also provide youth club facilities and activities for young Irish speakers and teach Irish classes to over 1600 children in 16 English-medium primary schools in Derry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
