DESCRIPTION:Generally considered the foremost meeting for second language researchers in Europe, the 2025 conference of the European Second Language Association (EuroSLA) will bring together for the thirty-fourth year researchers working on second language acquisition, processing, and use from across the world. The conference will be hosted at UiT the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø 25-28 June 2025.\n*Changes may occur.\n30 September 2024: Submission portal opening.\n06 December 2024: Abstract submission deadline.\n20 February 2025: Notification of acceptance.\n03 March 2025: Early bird registration starts.\n11 April 2025: End of early bird registration.\n12 April 2025: Full fee registration starts.\n23 May 2025: End of registration.\n\n\n\n\n\nCall for papers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are inviting proposals for presentations at EuroSLA 34 to be held in Tromsø, Norway, June 25 – 28 2025.\nWe welcome submissions in all areas and approaches to the study of second, foreign or additional languages, bilingualism and multilingualism.\n\nAcademic Program \n\nThe academic program will include presentations by four invited keynote speakers: ( https://en.uit.no/tavla/artikkel/sub?p_document_id=845263&sub_id=846114 ) \n\nKara Morgan-Short (University of Illinois)\nTheres Grüter (University of Hawaii)\nPatrick Rebuschat (Lancaster University)\nBernadette O’Rourke (University of Glasgow)\n\nDoctoral Workshop and Roundtable.\nThe conference will also offer a doctoral student workshop and a round ( https://en.uit.no/tavla/artikkel/sub?p_document_id=845263&sub_id=846267 )table ( https://en.uit.no/tavla/artikkel/sub?p_document_id=845263&sub_id=846267 ) on the topic « From language learners to New Speakers and their role in language revitalization ».\nTypes of presentations\n\n\n\nIndividual Papers\nLength of presentation 20 min followed by 5 min for Q&A\n\n\nPosters\nA0. Landscape or portrait\n\n\nPapers at the doctoral student workshop\nLength of presentation: 15 min of talk by the doctoral student, followed by 10 minutes for discussion.\nThe doctoral student workshop aims at fostering discussions of ongoing PhD research, as well as at obtaining feedback from senior researchers and other doctoral students. These workshops provide an opportunity for PhD students to present and discuss their work and explore future directions (25 minutes). Doctoral students whose abstracts are accepted are required to send their abstract, presentation, and a limited number of specific questions to the senior discussant ahead of the conference. The discussant will lead a 10-minute feedback/discussion session of the PhD work.\n\n\n\n\nAbstract Submission Information\n\nThe submission of presentation proposals closes on 06 December 2024. We particularly encourage the submission of poster proposals given that the number of paper slots are limited. We believe that poster sessions are an excellent opportunity to discuss research with other delegates on a more informal basis.\nThe proposals for all presentations will be evaluated by at least three members of the EuroSLA 34 Scientific Committee. Evaluation criteria include:\n\n Quality of the content\n Clarity of the content\n Contribution to the field\n\nPlease note that you will have to create a SoftConf account to be able to submit your abstract. \nNotification of acceptance will be communicated by 20 February 2025.\nLength of Abstracts\nIndividual papers, papers at the doctoral student workshop, or posters: max 500 words.\nLanguage Policy\nThe working language of the conference is English, but presentations are also welcome in other European languages.\n\nStudent Stipends\n\nAs in previous years, several student stipends will be available for doctoral students. If you wish to apply, please send the following information to eurosla34@uit.no ( mailto:eurosla34@uit.no ) before 6 December 2024:\n\nName, institution and address of the institution\nOfficial confirmation of PhD student status\nStatement from supervisor or Head of department that the applicant’s institution cannot (fully) cover the conference-related expenses.\n\nPlease note that applicants who have already received such stipend in the past are not eligible to re-apply.\n\nJunior Researcher LAB Award\n\nThe journal Linguistic Approaches to Bilingualism will be awarding the Junior Researcher LAB Award for the most promising PhD project selected for presentation at the doctoral workshop. The recipient of the Junior Researcher LAB award receives 300 Euros.
