The TELP (Taller d’Espai Llingüístic Personal) is a training course that uses tools originating in Psychology to help us acquire a set of resources and thus enable us to tackle language interaction situations. The TELP is geared towards anyone who wants to learn to effectively tackle the situations that he/she now finds uncomfortable. Afterwards, they themselves will be able to act as behaviour models for other people on which they exert an influence.
The TELP is not an initiative directly geared towards increasing the degree of language awareness; it has been thought up for people who, despite having language awareness, endure problems using a minority language, which considerably harms their social and individual well-being. This workshop is run using techniques and methods from behavioural therapy, sports psychology, drama and training in assertiveness, which will provide us with resources so that we can feel more comfortable speaking Catalan, with the consequent increase in individual well-being and the social presence of the language. As regards the methodology we use, it is a theoretical-practical workshop of an interactive nature and its orientation is clearly an applied one. With the theoretical component we aim to provide the minimum knowledge essential to understand how, on an individual basis, the process to select a language in a specific situation takes place. This knowledge facilitates the understanding of submissive behaviour.
The practical component is designed to enable the participants to see that language conflict situations can be tackled in different ways. Through a range of exercises and games, actual situations are set up with the aim of learning to analyse our habitual attitudes and modifying our behaviour in order to feel more comfortable when maintaining the language.
