This is a 3 to 4-day retreat run for people whose L1 is Aragonese (native Aragonese speakers) and others for whom Aragonese is their L2; it is organised in line with similar cultural projects and is underpinned by the concerns shared by the participants.
The project is a rotatory one as it takes place with speakers whose mother tongue is Aragonese in different localities , such as Chistén – Val de Chistau, Artieda, Secastiella – Baixa Ribagorza and Ciresa – Val d'Echo and Mayo en Fonz. Various everyday life activities are organised with children and adults in addition to specifically cultural activities designed to enrich the programme, such as excursions, concerts, etc.
The “trobada” or meeting seeks to facilitate over several days the chance to live exclusively in the Romance language with the lowest number of speakers in Europe by offering a real context. It is enabling the community that is concerned about the survival of Aragonese to build and reinforce closer ties in addition to working to drive forward and revitalise its language.
This initiative emerged out of the need to build a community owing to the fragmentation (in terms of the dialect and association) of Aragonese speakers. Schools of Aragonese, cultural associations in the villages, districts and town councils mainly are participating in this scheme.
