Espace Ressources Sàmmle

This is an Internet portal devoted to listing sound and visual documents in Alsatian and making them available online.
“Sàmmle” means “collect” in Alsatian. It is also the term adopted by the OLCA (L’Office pour la Langue et la Culture d’Alsace / Elsassisches Sprochàmt) for its operation to collect, protect and enhance the oral linguistic heritage of Alsace.  This project falls within the continuity of the work of the OLCA and its commitment towards the language and culture of Alsace.

The OLCA is a locally-governed association set up on the initiative of the Region of Alsace in 1994 and also supported by the General Councils of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin. The Office is working to give Alsatian greater presence in all fields, and supports the initiatives of groups, administrations, companies, associations and private individuals. It is a centre of information and documentation in the fields of regional languages and culture.

The action to protect and enhance the oral heritage, which began in 2008, is the result of collaboration between the region’s players linked to associations, culture and institutions.

It is also based on the UNESCO convention of 2003 on protecting intangible cultural heritage (ICH).

“Sàmmle” aims to discover and share the wealth of the Alsatian language and culture and meet the need to network the custodians of the resources in the following fields:

  • traditional songs and music;
  • folk wisdom;
  • stories and legends;
  • dialect theatre;
  • testimonies and life stores in Alsatian.
