A Piazzetta is the first and only newspaper written in Corsican. It exists in digital as well as print format. The Internet site was set up in 2007 and the print version in 2009. The website www.apiazzetta.com is regularly updated and has about 2,500 articles (50,000 visits a month).
The print version launched in 2009 is a free, 16-page, quarterly publication in colour, of which 15,000 copies are printed and distributed all over Corsica. (25 issues have been published so far).
A Piazzetta offers reading material in everyday Corsican. Current affairs are described in Corsican often with a dose of sarcasm. In fact, A Piazzetta is a satirical newspaper that offers a different interpretation of current affairs but which also includes general interest articles as well as specific glossaries (insults and swearwords in Corsican, lexicon of love, etc.).
As one of its main aims is the democratisation of the language, the (quarterly, 16-page) edition is distributed free of charge.
Another of its aims is to update the Corsican language using current means: a website, but also a mobile app and a daily presence on the social networks, where it has a large group of fans (more than 20,000 in Facebook).
