The Escolas de Ensino Galego Semente is a social, popular, self-managed, not-for-profit initiative seeking to build, in collaboration with other similar projects, the foundations needed for setting up a National Galician School (Escuela Nacional Gallega). It is a language immersion project for children between the ages of 2 and 6 in urban environments which are majority Spanish-speaking ones.
At the Escolas de Ensino Galego Semente we are aiming to create an effective, useful and creative language immersion model inextricably linked to achieving a school of pedagogical quality. This project on language immersion is developing transformative pedagogy put at the service of popular interests. Our aim is to come up with a model of social creation for a participatory, community school that forms part of a social process to revitalise our language and bring about social change.
At the Escolas de Ensino Galego Semente all the activities take place in the language of our people and encourage the acquisition, care and consolidation of the language. We regard the Galician language as an inseparable part of our culture, our history and our future, and we defend its international character by creating a space for interculturality and fostering the importance of respecting the other cultures coexisting in our country.
