Mintzanet is an on-line tool for practising Basque and is free of charge. We bring together one person who speaks Basque well with another who wants to practise. The practice is free and the minimum requirement is to have attained the advanced level A2.
 
The project consists of making it possible to practise Basque without leaving the house, and at a time that suits all the people who do not have the possibility of speaking in Basque as much as they would like. To guarantee this, all the people who want to speak in Basque, no matter where they are, have the chance to speak it whenever they want over the www.mintzanet.net website. The project is absolutely free of charge and is based on two essential cornerstones: the travelling companion and the traveller. The travelling companion is the Basque speaker who speaks Basque and who is prepared to help the other person, and the traveller is the pupil who wants to practise Basque. The Mintzanet project emerged with the aim of providing a free-of-charge opportunity to speak in Basque for Basques spread across the world and for those who are here in the Basque Country. However, it is normal that priority should always be given to having a minimum level of Basque to guarantee mutual communication. There is no didactic aim; it is not a teacher-student relationship but free practice.
 
The Mintzapraktika on-site projects have been up and running for a long time.  There was no possibility on the Internet and the fact that Mintzanet is online has several advantages: there are no time or geographical limits. What is more, unlike the on-site modality, only one travelling companion and only one traveller participate; otherwise the result could be that some participants do not speak. So whoever wants to practice can make a lot of progress.
