Edicions Transiberiano is a not-for-profit, publishing initiative partnership set up in 2015 by various writers in Aragonese and language activists. It seeks to use digital printing technologies on demand and e-commerce to increase the offer of literature in Aragonese, both original works and the translation of classics, to reach new sectors of the public, facilitate re-issues by updating the language model and ultimately overcoming the difficulties involved in traditional publishing in minority languages.
Traditional publishing poses difficulties in the area of languages that have a very small speech community owing to the necessary initial investment. What it more, it is virtually impossible to produce new editions, expanded ones or with an enhanced language model. Distribution in bookshops also means additional costs. This leads to many books not being published unless they have grants from the public administrations.
What is new about this initiative with respect to traditional publishing lies in the use of digital printing technologies that allow print on demand and distribution over the Internet (e-commerce). For this purpose, Edicions Transiberiano has the support of the Aragonese company Stylo Digital (http://www.stylodigital.com) which has become fully involved in the project.
Another feature of this initiative is the dynamics of team working in a collaborative and distributed way.
In its first year of existence Edicions Transiberiano has published 9 works in Aragonese consisting of translations, first editions and re-issues, works for children, and narrative, poetry and drama works.
