The Condau de Ribagorza literary competition in Ribagorza Aragonese was set up in 2001 within the framework of seminars on local languages and organised by Graus Town Council. In 2004 the Fonz and Estadilla town councils also joined in the development of this competition, and since then it has been organised successively by each of the institutions, each of which currently belong to three different districts of Huesca.
The Condau de Ribagorza competition calls cover short stories in the general and teenage categories as well as poems in the general category. The linguistic spectrum of the competition is Ribagorza Aragonese, a dialectal variety used over a broad geographical sector in the districts of Ribagorza, Somontano and Cinca Medio, and which historically corresponds to the ancient duchy of Ribagorza.
In the fourteen editions held, the Condau de Ribagorza has received a total of 124 original texts, comprising 89 short stores and 35 books of poems. Of them 37 texts have received awards and were works by 18 different authors. The award-winning texts are published every year in different local magazines, and they can all be found at www.espaciopirineos.com. The award-winning works in the first 5 years are also included in the publication ‘Premio Literario Condau de Ribagorza’.
