Ai’ta ! is a group of militants who are using civil disobedience techniques to give Breton greater prominence in society. We draw up charters, hold meetings, run mobilisation campaigns (petitions, protests in which we pretend to be dead, ballots, lockouts, etc.), pedagogical and festive events.
Ai’ta ! is a group whose main aim is to defend and promote the Breton language so that it can continue to be a living language in all sectors of society. That is why it is essential to give everyone the chance to see, hear and speak Breton in public life. A language that cannot be used in everyday life is a language condemned to die; that is why we are calling for the Breton language and its speakers to be respected all over Brittany. That is why our language must be given official status.
As we await this fundamental step along the road towards the reappropriation of the Breton language by the Bretons, this group is not short of ideas and is undertaking a whole host of actions to inform as many people as possible and to develop the place granted to Breton in society. But always, and this is important, in a good-humoured way, with a sense of fun, with respect for the users and, frequently, with their help. In fact, Ai’ta ! has opted for active non-violence to express itself and make itself heard.
