As Alsatian is a modern, colourful language, it has adapted perfectly to the new fun and interactive forms of communication.
By adopting dynamic, attractive channels of communication, the OLCA (L’Office por la Langue et la Culture d’Alsace / Elsassisches Sprochàmt) has committed itself towards reinventing Alsatian on the everyday landscape, above all, for young people who, despite no longer using it, feel tremendous affection towards “the way in which their grandparents speak”, the vector of their culture. That is how the iPhone “iYo” app has emerged; it has been designed and created by the AMOPIX production company of Strasbourg.
“iYo” is an app that includes over 80 expressions divided into 4 categories (flirting, partying, young people and swear words). They are pronounced by 4 different people, who are identified by their mouths: a child, a young woman, a black woman and a bearded man.
It is easy to use: you just have to choose a category, an expression, a character and put YOUR smartphone in front of YOUR mouth and… voilà, you are speaking Alsatian!
