2008 saw the emergence of the ‘Seminars on Pyrenean Languages’, which tackle the problems shared by all the autochthonous languages in the area. It was the successor to the ‘Seminars on the Languages of Ribagorza’ (2001 to 2007) –a long-standing activity among those promoted by the Department of Culture of the Town Council of Graus.
The Seminars, which are run every year around the Feast of St. George (23 April), combine the areas of science and training, the boosting of literary creation and dissemination.
As regards the scientific side, it is worth highlighting the lectures, seminars and workshops given throughout these editions as well as the support and coordination of publications. In this respect, the Sociedat Llingüistica Aragonesa has its headquarters in Graus and the local town council contributes funding towards its journal ‘De Lingua Aragonensi’, as well as towards other publications.
As regards the encouraging of creativity, Graus Town Council organises, together with the Town Councils of Estadilla and Fonz, the 'Condau de Ribagorza’ literary competition, in the general and teenage categories as well as in the modalities of short stories and poems. The fifteenth edition of the competition will be taking place in 2016.
As far popularisation is concerned, many activities have been programmed over the last few years: concerts, story-telling sessions, gymkhana-type events, the festival of Pyrenean and Aragonese arts ‘Pyrenalea’ in 2014, plus a large number of poetry readings known as ‘Poetián’, a show with live music that has spread a considerable portion of the literary heritage in Ribagorza Aragonese across different localities in the province of Huesca, and in Zaragoza and Barcelona.
